California Adventure 2-Day Itinerary for Families (2026)
Two days at DCA covers everything — Cars Land, Pixar Pier, Avengers Campus, Hollywood Land, two nights of World of Color. Day 1 is marquee. Day 2 is the deep cuts plus Grizzly River Run.
Day 1 at California Adventure — Lightning Lane, Nap Break, Relaxed Pace
Day 1 at DCA: marquee headliners — Radiator Springs Racers, Soarin', Toy Story Midway Mania, Monsters Inc., Little Mermaid. Save Pixar Pier specifics for Day 2.
Park 45 minutes early. With multiple days at DCA, Day 1's job is the marquee rides — RSR, Soarin', Toy Story Midway Mania, Monsters Inc., Little Mermaid. Day 2 picks up the second-tier Pixar Pier rides.
Cars Land at 8:00 = 15–20 minute wait. By 11 it's 75+. Saves the family $60–120 in Single Pass. If your kid is under 40", Single Rider for one parent while the other does Little Mermaid with the kid (walk-on).
First LL on Day 1 is always Soarin' — universal family favorite.
Two more rides while you're here. Mater's spins; Luigi's self-drives. Both 32" — most 4+ kids ride. Skip if your kid hated the RSR spin.
Re-book Toy Story Midway Mania the moment you tap in.
Sets up a smooth pre-nap ride right before lunch. Modify if your kid is melting down sooner.
Walk to Hollywood Land. Monsters, Inc. standby is 15–20 minutes at 10:30. Little Mermaid is walk-on. Two anchor Day 1 rides knocked out before lunch.
Opens 12:00 PM in the app. Must be tapped into DCA. Day 1 evening = World of Color, so don't skip this.
Right after the WoC tap, walk to Pixar Pier for the booking. 3D shooter — kids ask to ride it again.
Order at 11:45 for the 12:30 window. Quick Mexican, eat fast — nap awaits.
Out by 1:00. Book the next LL from bed at 3:00.
Brave 6+ kids only — Spider-Man 3D shooter is intense, sudden moves, loud. Skip for under-6; book Monsters Inc. again instead.
Walk Avengers Campus first — Spider-Man drone shows, Doctor Strange demos, character roams. Use the LL for WEB SLINGERS. Skip Guardians: BREAKOUT! on Day 1 — save that Multi Pass booking for Day 2.
Lamplight if you booked 60 days out. Otherwise Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta — kid-friendly, sit-down, on Pixar Pier with views.
Cars Land's lights at sunset is the visual moment of DCA. Walk Route 66, take photos, let the kids run. RSR re-ride is possible — standby drops to 30–40 min by 8 PM.
From your virtual queue area. Bring rain ponchos for the front rows. Show typically 9:00 PM in summer.
Last Day at California Adventure — Lightning Lane, Nap Break, Relaxed Pace
Day 2 of 2: rides you missed on Day 1, Pixar Pier deep cuts, Grizzly River Run for hot afternoons, and World of Color one more time. Less marquee pressure.
Day 2 you earned 30 minutes. Park 30 min early. Day 2 is for the rides you didn't get to or the ones the kids want to ride again.
Day 2's rope drop is the kid's pick. Most families re-do Radiator Springs Racers if it was the hit. If they're sick of RSR, head to Toy Story Midway Mania for a 10-minute morning standby.
Soarin' is the safest Day 2 first LL — it's short, family-loved, no marketing required. Book for 10:00 AM.
Pixar Pier rides Day 1 skipped: Jumpin' Jellyfish (40", brave 6+ love it — mini drop tower), Golden Zephyr (vintage rockets — closes if windy, which is most days), Pixar Pal-A-Round Ferris wheel for views.
Kids ask to ride Soarin' again all trip. This is the day. Re-book Toy Story Midway Mania next.
Best last-day Pixar Pier ride. Book before nap because it stacks well right before lunch.
42" minimum. You will get soaked — not damp, soaked. Pack a poncho or change of clothes in the stroller. Skip if it's under 70°F.
Re-ride or first ride if you didn't hit it Day 1. Then quick lunch.
Last DCA evening = World of Color one more time. Same drill: 12:00 PM sharp.
Day 2 lunch upgrade. San Fransokyo Square birria tacos and ramen are the best DCA quick service. Less crowded than Cocina Cucamonga at lunch.
Pack up the room during nap if checkout is tomorrow. Book one more LL at 3:00 from bed.
Monsters, Inc. for nostalgic toddler families. WEB SLINGERS if your kid loved Avengers Campus and wants to ride again.
Mix afternoon: Use the LL, then Little Mermaid for AC, then walk Avengers Campus for character moments. Doctor Strange demo runs every 30 min outside Sanctum.
Last DCA dinner = Smokejumpers Grill. Burgers and sandwiches, often less crowded than the Pixar Pier options. Sit on the patio with mountain views.
Last sunset over Route 66. Re-ride RSR if standby is under 40 minutes. Otherwise just walk it, photos, breathe.
Last DCA show. From your virtual queue area, 15 minutes early. Bring ponchos for front rows.
Read the Lightning Lane Multi Pass math at DCA, cross-check rides with the age-by-age Disneyland rides guide, mobile-order from the DCA food spots worth your money, and pack with the Disneyland packing list for kids.
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions families ask us most about a two-day California Adventure plan.
Why would you do two days at California Adventure?
Most families do one DCA day and one Disneyland day. But for families with kids 7+ who want Incredicoaster, Guardians: BREAKOUT!, plus all the Multi Pass headliners and Pixar Pier deep cuts — two DCA days makes sense. Day 1 marquee, Day 2 picks up everything Day 1 missed.
Is DCA Multi Pass worth it for a 2-day visit?
On a 2-day DCA visit, Multi Pass works on Day 1 (Soarin', Toy Story Midway Mania, WEB SLINGERS) but is harder to justify Day 2 — most of the second-tier Pixar Pier and Cars Land rides are standby-only anyway. Most families buy it for Day 1 only.
Should we ride Grizzly River Run on a 2-day DCA trip?
Yes, on Day 2 only — and pack a poncho. 42" minimum. You will get soaked. Save it for the warmer of your two days; the AC-rides break right after warms you back up.
When should we book Lamplight Lounge for a 2-day DCA trip?
Lamplight Lounge (Pixar Pier) opens reservations 60 days out via the Disneyland app. Book it the moment your booking window opens — it sells out within days. Tuna nachos and lobster nachos are the move. Book it for Day 1 dinner so you can talk through Day 2 priorities over food.
Can you do World of Color two nights in a row?
Yes — join the virtual queue at 12:00 PM each day. Show typically plays 9:00 PM with a second show at 10:15 on busy nights. Front-row areas get soaked; bring rain ponchos.
