Two things families need to know right now: the best crowd-to-experience window of the entire year opens this week (August 25 through September 7), and Minnie & Friends Breakfast in the Park is closed through late September — a real trip disruption that hasn't gotten much coverage. The best crowd window of the year is happening now. For families with schedule flexibility, this is the exact window we've been telegraphing for months: Halloween Time is active, Kids' Summer Tickets are still valid, school is back in session for most of the country, and October's crowds haven't started building yet. Touring Plans is forecasting most weekdays this week and next at crowd level 3-4 out of 10. If you can move a trip up, do it. This window closes September 7 when Kids' Summer Tickets expire.
Minnie & Friends Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn is closed through late September. Started August 17, running roughly 5 weeks. Plaza Inn's regular lunch and dinner service continues, but the character breakfast — one of the top character dining experiences at Disneyland for families with kids 2-6 — is off the table until late September. If you had reservations, Disney should have contacted you; if you assumed you'd walk up, plan differently. Substitute character dining options during this window: Goofy's Kitchen at Disneyland Hotel (now doing a Halloween theme through October 31), Storytellers Café at the Grand Californian (Mickey's Autumn Adventures breakfast plus Clarabelle's Enchanted Halloween Dinner), or the new Halloween-themed dinner options across the resort.

For families with kids 2-8, Halloween Time is genuinely one of the best times to visit. The stuff that works for young kids:
- Plaza de la Familia at DCA (through November 2). Coco-themed celebration at Paradise Gardens Park with Miguel meet-and-greets, live music, papel picado décor, and authentic food. Included with admission. Zero scary elements. This is the underrated gem of Halloween Time for families.
- Haunted Mansion Holiday (Nightmare Before Christmas overlay). Significantly less menacing than the regular Haunted Mansion for sensitive young kids — the theming is Jack-and-Sally cheerful, not spooky. Watch for the exterior lighting effect around 7-7:30 PM if you're in the area.
- Mickey's Trick and Treat daytime show at DCA. Age-appropriate for the 2-8 crowd.
- Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween and Mater's Graveyard JamBOOree at Cars Land. Both work for young kids, both have fun costume variants.
- Mickey and Friends Halloween Cavalcade at Disneyland. Launched Friday, fills the parade gap that opened when the 70th Celebrate Happy Cavalcade ended.
Skip with kids under 6: Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy (still Space Mountain, still a real coaster), Guardians of the Galaxy Monsters After Dark (louder and more intense than the regular Mission Breakout), and Halloween Screams if your kid is sensitive to loud fireworks in the dark.

- The pumpkin-themed spirit jerseys have held resale value in previous seasons. If your kid loves Nightmare, this is the practical piece.
What to skip: the higher-priced collectibles unless you specifically want them. Halloween merch drops in waves throughout the season — you don't need to buy everything opening week.
🍿 Food Worth Knowing
Disney dropped 150+ Halloween food items across the resort. The ones actually worth the calories and money for families:
- Alien Pizza Planet got a Halloween twist that's stayed legitimately good year over year.
- Rancho del Zocalo during Plaza de la Familia — some of the best authentic Mexican food at the resort right now.
- Little Red Wagon corn dogs remain a top pick regardless of season, but the seasonal churro variants are worth trying.
- The Ronto Wraps at Galaxy's Edge continue to be the top play for picky-eater lunch — unchanged by the seasonal drop.

This has been running quietly but it's worth flagging — on-property stays are usually the biggest chunk of a Disneyland trip budget, and a 30% cut is real money.
